Hi there!

As I mentioned in the Home page, I will be sharing English language learning and teaching related posts with you. This is my first blog post and here I provided some information about 21st Century Learning along with the Word Cloud I created.

Let's explore more about the terms I used in my Word Cloud!

The term "21st-century skills" generally refers to certain core competencies such as collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving that advocates believe schools need to teach to help students.

As we know, technologies have many affordances and constraints, potentials and problems that teachers need to understand before they can start using them for pedagogical purposes.

Remember that only repurposing makes a technology an educational technology. Repurposing is the key to creativity.

There are two contrasting views of educational technology;

  • B.F. Skinner’s Teaching Machine and Program Learning

  • Connectivism

  • 1960s-1970s, Behavioristic CALL (Learning through the stimulus-response-feedback model)

  • 1970s & 80s, Communicative CALL (Computers are used to stimulate discussion, writing or critical thinking)

  • 21st Century, Integrative CALL (Students learn to use a variety of technological tools as an ongoing process of language learning and use, rather than visiting the computer lab on a once a week basis for isolated exercises)

What are the 4 Cs (21st century learning)?

  • Critical Thinking - refers to students’ ability to analyze, interpret, evaluate, make decisions and solve problems

  • Communication - refers to student’s ability tos hare informations while expressing their ideas and opinions clearly to others.

  • Collaboration - refers to student’s ability to work with others to accomplish a goal while being flexible and sharing group responsibility.

  • Creativity - includes activities such as brainstorming, refinding ideas, resposive to ideas from others, making ideas useful to others.

What is ICT?

The term ICT refers to Information and Communications Technology, which impacts student learning when teachers are digitally literate and understand how to integrate it into curriculum. Schools use a diverse set of ICT tools to communicate, create, disseminate, store, and manage information.

You have finished reading brief explanations about the terms I used in my Word Cloud and this is all for now, thank you for reading and I hope it is helpful!
